A plump short-tailed starling, metallic blue and green, head blackish; breast and belly bright rufous-chestnut; narrow white band across breast; under tail-coverts and below wings white; eyes pale yellowish-cream. Immature duller and eyes dark.habitatWidely distributed in open habitats in arid and semi-arid savana and grassland and semi-humic areas up to 2000 m. wooded grasslane, lakeside and riverine woodland.Frequents thorn bush and acacia country and the vicinity of human dwellings. Gregarious and usually tame and fearless of man. Food and FeedingMainly insects, including termites, ants, grasshopers, mantids, beetles,also fruits.Feeds mainly on the ground, often below or near acacia trees. Breeding.Oct-late Jun. Monogamous.Nest untidy, bulky, domed structure of thorny twigs with side entrance. 2-5 eggs, incubation 12-15 days.
